    American City Break: NYC

Happy 4th July! This week we're celebrating all things American as we head across the pond for a stateside city break in The Big Apple.

There is a reason New York City is called the city that never sleeps. Constantly crowded by tourists at every hour of the day, it can be a tough city to walk or drive through. By bike, on the other hand, is a completely different story, as you have the freedom of the road without being slowed by congestion of traffic.

With NYC’s massive size, it’s impossible to scratch the surface of the city in even a week’s time. However, on this short, easy ride, put together by our New Jersey native intern Joe, you can see all the essentials in less than a few hours.

    The Cycle Route

    Central Park

New York City Central Park Starting Bike Route Point

The route starts at the uppermost corner of Central Park between Harlem and the Upper West Side. From there, you’ll get to ride through the breathtaking park in its entirety. Whether you want to see the Central Park Zoo, ride at its amusement park, or just relax and take it all in, the park has something for everybody!

    Rockefeller Centre

    Rockefeller Center Ice Skating Rink

Next on the route is the famed Rockefeller Center. Towering over it is the famed 30 Rockefeller Center, where many hit American television shows have been filmed for the past several decades. Within the square itself, you can find several shops and a huge ice skating rink.

    Times Square

From Rockefeller Center, you would head through Times Square, which is known for hosting the biggest New Years Eve celebration in the U.S. annually. Though this is a crazy area, this should be the peak of traffic on the route.

    MSG

Not far from Times Square is “The World’s Most Famous Arena”: Madison Square Garden. This iconic building is known for being home to the New York Knicks and Rangers, as well as hosting concerts by some of the biggest names in the world. Right around the corner, you can grab an authentic New York pizza for lunch at NY Pizza Suprema.

    Empire State Building

New York City Empire State Building Cycle Route

Following lunch, you will go past the one and only Empire State Building! The skyscraper is one of the first things that comes to mind when one thinks of the city for its well-known needle at the top.

    Freedom Tower

    NYC Freedom Tower Bike Adventure

Towards the tail end of the journey, you will come across the Freedom Tower, which is the tallest building in the world.

    Statue of Liberty

Statue of Liberty Bike Route Finish Point

The journey ends at a viewpoint for the Statue of Liberty in Battery Park. Now that you’re done with the ride, sit back, relax, and enjoy a beautiful view of Lady liberty.

If you can make it there, you'll make it anywhere! Ride around New York and then head westwards to The Windy City. Check back next week for another of Joe's routes: Chicago.
