Visiting friends in the Canadian Rocky Mountains in British Columbia, Lee decided to use the Beeline app to aid their epic hike to Lake Magog, in the shadows of Mount Assiniboine.
Lee and friends mid hike, carrying all their gear for the next few days
Setting off in the summer sunshine from Sunshine Village, they began their 30 odd kilometre journey. Sunshine Village is in Banff, perhaps better known as a ski resort in winter but as Lee's pictures show it's no less stunning in summer.
There were literal and emotional ups and downs. Carrying everything they needed, they trudged their way toward Mount Assiniboine, passing the aptly named Fatigue Mountain as well as Mount Howard Douglas and Nestor Peak.
Although technically climbing along the valley between the peaks, there's still over 1400m of ascent along the way which is not to be shirked at. Plus almost 1000m of descent.
The stunning Lake Magog making the 9 hour hike all worthwhile
9 hours of slogging finally led them to an incredible campsite overlooking Mt Assiniboine and a base camp for a lovely couple of days of sunrise walks, glacial lake swimming, camping stories and boxed wine drinking. Truly an incredible few days with friends in the wilderness.
